Character Arc
Lenny Kosnowski is one half of the bumbling comic-relief duo Lenny and Squiggy, the dim-witted but well-meaning neighbors who live upstairs from Laverne and Shirley. Together with his inseparable friend Andrew Squigman, known as Squiggy, Lenny barges into the women's apartment with their trademark catchphrase greeting, providing some of the series' broadest and most beloved slapstick humor. Lenny is the more amiable and slightly sweeter-natured of the pair.
Lenny and Squiggy work as truck drivers delivering for the Shotz Brewery and harbor dreams of musical stardom, performing as a novelty act in several episodes. Lenny's goofy charm, oddball logic, and earnest delivery made him a standout in the ensemble. The character's friendship with Squiggy, built on years of loyalty and shared schemes, was a comedic anchor of the show.
Lenny was played by Michael McKean across all eight seasons. The role launched McKean's long career in comedy and acting; he later co-created and starred in the mockumentary film This Is Spinal Tap and earned acclaim decades later for his dramatic turn as Chuck McGill on Better Call Saul. Lenny remains one of his most recognizable early characters.
