Liz Ortecho is the heart of Roswell, New Mexico, a gifted biomedical scientist who reluctantly returns to her hometown after years away. The daughter of Mexican immigrant restaurant owners, she carries grief over the death of her sister Rosa and a complicated relationship with the town that never fully accepted her family. Her homecoming sets the entire series in motion when she is shot and saved by Max Evans, revealing the existence of aliens living in Roswell.
Once she learns the truth, Liz channels her intellect into studying alien biology, determined to protect Max, Isobel, and Michael while uncovering what really happened to her sister. Her scientific curiosity repeatedly drives the plot, leading her to discoveries about the aliens origins and the people who would harm them. Throughout the series she wrestles with whether love and loyalty can coexist with hard truths, especially as her relationship with Max deepens.
Over four seasons Liz grows from a guarded outsider into a confident woman who builds a chosen family and a future in Roswell. She advances her career, confronts painful family history, and helps lead the fight against threats to the people she loves. By the finale her arc centers on choosing the life and relationships she once thought she had to leave behind.
