About Roswell, New Mexico
Roswell, New Mexico is a science fiction romance drama that premiered on The CW in January 2019. Developed by Carina Adly MacKenzie, it is a reboot of the early 2000s series Roswell, both of which draw on the Roswell High young adult novels by Melinda Metz. The story follows Liz Ortecho, a brilliant biomedical researcher who returns to her small hometown of Roswell after a decade away. There she reconnects with her teenage crush, police officer Max Evans, and soon learns that he and two others are aliens who have been hiding their true nature in plain sight.
When Liz is nearly killed, Max heals her using his powers and exposes the secret that he, his sister Isobel, and their friend Michael Guerin survived the 1947 Roswell UFO crash. The trio have spent their lives concealing what they are from a town that distrusts outsiders, and Liz becomes determined to use her scientific training to understand alien biology while protecting them. The series blends a central will-they-wont-they love story with conspiracy, murder mystery, and questions about identity, immigration, and belonging in a divided America.
Across four seasons the show widens its mythology to include other survivors, a hostile faction, and the long buried history of the aliens home world. It balances the slow burn romance between Liz and Max with the equally beloved relationship between Michael and Alex Manes, and with the bonds among the alien siblings and their human allies. Filmed largely in New Mexico, Roswell, New Mexico ran for 52 episodes before concluding in 2022 with a fourth and final season that wrapped up its core relationships and mysteries.
