Character Arc
Mika Egashira is one of Mitsumi's classmates, a fashionable and image-conscious girl who initially keeps up a sweet, sociable front while privately competing for attention and popularity. When the guileless Mitsumi unexpectedly becomes well liked, Mika at first treats her as a rival and even tries to undermine her, frustrated that someone so seemingly clueless can win people over so easily.
Her arc is one of the series' most satisfying, as Mitsumi's complete lack of malice slowly disarms Mika's defensiveness. Unable to maintain her resentment in the face of such open kindness, Mika gradually drops the act and becomes a genuine friend. The show treats her insecurity with empathy rather than judgment, presenting her sharp edges as the understandable habits of a teenager trying hard to be liked.
By softening from a guarded rival into a real member of Mitsumi's friend group, Mika embodies one of Skip and Loafer's central ideas: that sincerity can quietly change the people around it. Her growing honesty, both with herself and with her friends, mirrors the larger theme of teenagers learning to drop their performances and connect for real.
