About Skip and Loafer

Skip and Loafer follows Mitsumi Iwakura, a brilliant and earnest girl from a tiny seaside town in rural Ishikawa Prefecture who moves to Tokyo to attend an elite high school. She has mapped out her entire future down to the smallest detail, convinced that top grades and a flawless plan will carry her toward a career in public service that helps her hometown. Reality, however, refuses to cooperate. On her very first morning she gets hopelessly lost, throws up on the train, and arrives late and disheveled to the entrance ceremony she was supposed to address as the top-scoring new student.

Rescuing her from that disaster is Sousuke Shima, a relaxed and effortlessly popular classmate who seems to drift through life on easy charm. The two strike up an unlikely friendship, and through Mitsumi's wide-eyed sincerity the series builds a warm circle of friends navigating the small dramas of first-year high school. The comedy comes from the gap between Mitsumi's overambitious planning and her clumsy social instincts, while the heart comes from how genuinely she cares about the people around her.

Animated by P.A. Works and based on Misaki Takamatsu's manga from Kodansha, Skip and Loafer is a gentle, wholesome coming-of-age story about friendship, growing up, and learning that life rarely follows the plan. Rather than relying on heavy melodrama, it finds its emotional weight in quiet, observant moments, awkward conversations, and the slow, believable way teenagers figure out who they want to be. A second season was confirmed by Kodansha in December 2024, with Crunchyroll set to stream it.
