Character Arc
Gye Ji-woong is a meticulous and by-the-book investigator at the district prosecutors office where Mi-jin comes to work. Introduced as a rigid stickler for rules and procedure, he initially clashes with the unconventional new staffer whose behavior never quite fits the mold he expects. Choi Jin-hyuk plays him with a deadpan seriousness that the show steadily turns into a source of warmth and comedy.
As he works alongside Mi-jin, Ji-woong becomes increasingly puzzled by the inconsistencies surrounding her, sensing that the woman he sees by day and the clues he picks up do not line up. His investigative instincts pull him toward the mystery of her double life even as his guarded personality begins to soften in her presence. The slow erosion of his rigid exterior is one of the central pleasures of the series.
Over the season, Ji-woong evolves from a solitary rule-follower into someone willing to bend his certainties for another person. His relationship with Mi-jin grows from professional friction into genuine attachment, and his arc parallels hers in its argument that people are more than the categories the world assigns them. By the finale he stands as both her workplace counterpart and her emotional anchor.
