Character Arc
Ken Takakura, nicknamed Okarun, is the other lead of Dandadan, a shy and socially awkward boy obsessed with the occult and conspiracy theories. He is convinced that aliens are real but flatly refuses to believe in ghosts, which sparks his rivalry-turned-partnership with Momo Ayase. Timid and easily flustered, he is nonetheless brave when it truly counts, especially when his new friends are in danger.
Okarun's life changes when he becomes bound to a powerful spirit known as Turbo Granny. The entity grants him superhuman speed and strength when he transforms, but using that power comes at a personal cost that becomes a recurring source of both tension and comedy. Learning to control this borrowed strength, and to negotiate with the very spirit he once denied could exist, forms a central thread of his growth.
Over the course of the series Okarun blossoms from a nervous loner into a dependable hero and a loyal companion. His relationship with Momo evolves from constant bickering into a heartfelt, blush-filled connection, and his earnest, good-natured personality makes him easy to root for. Together the two form the emotional and comedic heart of Dandadan.
