Dandadan follows two high-school misfits who collide over an argument that neither can win. Momo Ayase is a spirited girl who firmly believes in ghosts but scoffs at aliens, while the shy, occult-obsessed boy nicknamed Okarun insists that aliens are real and ghosts are nonsense. To settle the dispute, each dares the other to visit a haunted hotspot, and both end up being proven right in the worst possible way. Momo runs into genuine extraterrestrials while Okarun is ambushed by a malevolent spirit, and their ordinary lives are upended in a single night.

The encounter leaves both teens transformed. Momo awakens latent psychic powers inherited from her medium grandmother, gaining the ability to move objects and channel spiritual energy, while Okarun becomes entangled with a vengeful entity called Turbo Granny that lends him terrifying physical strength at a steep personal cost. Forced to rely on each other, the unlikely pair begins hunting down the ghosts and aliens that keep crossing their path.
