Character Arc
Shouko Komi is the heart of the series, a tall, graceful, and breathtakingly beautiful first-year whose poised appearance leads classmates to idolise her as a flawless, almost regal figure. In reality she lives with a severe communication disorder and crippling social anxiety, so she rarely speaks aloud and instead expresses her thoughts through writing, gestures, and remarkably expressive eyes.
When Tadano discovers her secret and learns her wish to make one hundred friends, Komi's quiet journey begins. Over the two seasons she gradually befriends an ever-growing circle of classmates, exchanges her first text messages, navigates school festivals and trips, and slowly finds the courage to communicate. Each new friend she names on her list marks a small but hard-won victory.
Beneath her anxiety, Komi is shown to be kind, earnest, surprisingly competitive, and deeply caring toward the people she lets in. Her developing feelings for Tadano add a tender romantic thread, and her growth from an isolated, misunderstood girl into someone learning to trust and connect forms the emotional core of the show.
