Character Arc
Suzune Horikita is a sharp, proud, and fiercely independent member of Class D who is determined to climb to the top-ranked Class A. Initially cold and dismissive of her classmates, she believes she can succeed through her own talent alone and resents relying on anyone. Her drive is fueled in part by the shadow of her older brother, a respected member of the student council whose expectations she feels compelled to live up to.
Throughout the series Suzune is repeatedly forced to confront the limits of going it alone, especially as Kiyotaka quietly pushes her toward a leadership role within Class D. The academy's brutal exams teach her that cooperation and trust are tools as vital as intellect, and she slowly softens from an isolated perfectionist into a genuine leader. Her growth becomes one of the emotional backbones of the show, as she learns to value her classmates rather than view them as obstacles.
By the later seasons Suzune has matured into a capable strategist in her own right, balancing ambition with a growing sense of responsibility for the people she once kept at arm's length. She begins to understand Kiyotaka's influence on her development and grapples with both gratitude and frustration at being guided. Her journey from prickly loner to determined captain of her class is a study in how rivalry and mentorship can reshape a stubborn personality.
