Character Arc
Yeo-ri is a young shaman gifted, and burdened, with the ability to see spirits that ordinary people cannot. At the start of the series she lives at the margins of society, taking on exorcisms and rituals to survive while carrying the loneliness that comes with her sight. Her sharp wit and stubborn compassion mark her early on as someone unwilling to turn away from the suffering of the dead, even when doing so puts her own safety at risk.
When she is drawn into the palace to address a wave of mysterious deaths, Yeo-ri is forced to navigate a world of court politics for which her itinerant life never prepared her. Her partnership with the serpent spirit Gang-cheol begins out of obligation but gradually deepens into trust, and eventually into something more complicated. Through these cases she confronts pieces of her own buried past, learning that the curse she is investigating is bound up with her own lineage.
Over the course of the season Yeo-ri grows from a solitary survivor into a figure who chooses connection over self-protection. Her arc traces the tension between her duty to the dead and her growing attachment to the living, and the finale asks how much she is willing to sacrifice to break the cycle of vengeance at the heart of the story.
