Character Arc

Uhtred of Bebbanburg is a man with two souls and one home he can't reach. Born a Saxon noble, captured and raised by Danes as a boy, Uhtred spends The Last Kingdom torn between the Christian Saxon England he was born to and the pagan Norse world that made him — fighting for King Alfred's dream of a united England while aching for the Northumbrian fortress, Bebbanburg, that was stolen from him.

His arc is the long, bloody making of England seen through one divided heart. Uhtred wins battles that kings take credit for, swears oaths he resents, loses lovers and friends to war and plague, and circles again and again toward the destiny written in his catchphrase — 'Destiny is all.' He is brash, loyal, sardonic, and gifted at war, and his refusal to fully belong to either world is exactly what makes him indispensable to both.

Alexander Dreymon's charismatic, swaggering performance carried the BBC and Netflix saga across five seasons and a film, turning a historical-fiction warrior into a streaming-era favorite.
