Character Arc

Adored at school as the untouchable prince, Yuki is in truth a lonely young man whose poise was forged under a controlling and frightening childhood. The rat of the zodiac wears admiration like a cage, painfully aware that the crowds around him do not know him at all.

Tohru is one of the first people to treat Yuki as an ordinary friend rather than an idol, and that simple normalcy gives him room to breathe. Through her he begins to untangle his rivalry with Kyo and the resentment and longing knotted up in it.

Yuki's journey is one of stepping out from behind the prince mask and discovering who he is when no one is performing for him. He grows into genuine confidence and connection, finding purpose and belonging on his own terms by the series' close.
