About Fruits Basket

After losing her mother and quietly living alone in a tent rather than burden anyone, high schooler Tohru Honda stumbles onto land owned by the reclusive Sohma family and finds herself invited to stay in their home. It is a kindness she barely lets herself accept, and the first thread in a story about how small acts of grace can begin to unravel decades of pain.

The Sohmas guard a strange and lonely secret: certain members are possessed by the spirits of the Chinese zodiac and transform into those animals whenever they are embraced by someone of the opposite sex. What begins as a comedy of slapstick accidents and clashing personalities deepens into something far more tender, as Tohru learns that the curse has left wounds of rejection, isolation, and inherited cruelty running through the entire clan.

Across three seasons the series patiently follows Tohru, the hot-tempered outcast Kyo, and the gentle prince Yuki as love, jealousy, and forgiveness slowly loosen the curse's grip. The Japanese voice cast gives these fragile arcs their emotional weight, led by Manaka Iwami as Tohru, Yuma Uchida as Kyo, and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Yuki.
