About Bloodhounds
Bloodhounds is a 2023 South Korean action drama created and directed by Kim Joo-hwan and released on Netflix. Set in the financial aftershock of a national crisis, it follows two upstanding young amateur boxers, Kim Geon-woo and Hong Woo-jin, who meet in the ring and quickly become close friends bonded by a shared sense of fair play. When predatory lending pushes ordinary families toward ruin, the pair are drawn into a fight that has little to do with sport and everything to do with protecting the people around them.
The two find an unlikely mentor in a kind-hearted elderly moneylender, Mr. Choi, who runs his business on patience and decency rather than intimidation. Together they take aim at a ruthless loan-shark operation that traps vulnerable borrowers in spiraling debt. The series frames the conflict in broad strokes, leaning on tension, strategy, and the loyalty between its leads rather than dwelling on the harsher details of the world they push back against.
Across eight tightly paced episodes, Bloodhounds builds its appeal on camaraderie and the satisfaction of righting wrongs. The friendship between Geon-woo and Woo-jin anchors the story, their easy humor and mutual trust offering warmth amid the high stakes. Praised for its energetic pacing and grounded performances, the show became one of Netflix's notable Korean releases of the year, and a second season was later confirmed.
