About Chicken Nugget
Chicken Nugget (Korean title Chikin Neoget) is a 2024 Netflix original comedy series from South Korea, written and directed by Lee Byeong-heon and based on the webtoon of the same name by Park Ji-dok. The premise is deliberately ridiculous: a young woman named Choi Min-ah steps into a strange machine that has been delivered to her father's small company, and moments later she emerges transformed into a single chicken nugget. With no explanation for how the device works, her loved ones are left staring at a piece of fried chicken that used to be a person.
The story follows Min-ah's father, Choi Sun-man, and Ko Baek-joong, a devoted intern who harbors deep feelings for her, as the two men form an unlikely partnership to reverse the transformation. Their quest takes them through a widening circle of eccentric characters, including the reclusive inventor behind the machine, conspiracy-minded officials, and other people who have been changed by similar contraptions. The show treats its bizarre central conceit with a straight face, mining humor from the gap between the characters' genuine distress and the sheer absurdity of mourning, protecting, and trying to save a chicken nugget.
Across ten episodes, the series blends deadpan delivery, surreal visual gags, and slapstick set pieces while gradually expanding its mythology around the mysterious technology. Beneath the comedy runs an earnest thread about love, loyalty, and the lengths people will go to for family. The series drew attention for its offbeat tone and the commitment of its cast, particularly the pairing of veteran actor Ryu Seung-ryong with comedic lead Ahn Jae-hong, and it stands as one of Netflix's more experimental Korean comedy offerings of the year.
