About Cuộc Đời Vẫn Đẹp Sao
Cuoc Doi Van Dep Sao (Life Is Still Beautiful) is a Vietnamese prime-time drama produced by the Vietnam Television Film Center (VFC) and broadcast on VTV3 in 2023. Directed by Nguyen Danh Dung, the series unfolds in the cramped, hardscrabble world of a riverside wholesale market where porters, vendors, and day labourers scrape together a living. Against this backdrop of poverty and quiet dignity, the story follows ordinary people whose warmth and stubborn optimism keep them going no matter how hard life becomes.
At the heart of the drama is Luyen, nicknamed Luyen luon, a sharp-tongued but big-hearted woman who has spent five years repaying the debts left behind by her late husband, only to discover that he is in fact alive and has started a new family. Beside her is Luu, known as Luu nat, a humble single father working as a market porter under the bridge while raising his college-age son alone and wrestling with shame over his poverty. As their lives intertwine, a tender, slow-building bond grows between the two struggling neighbours.
Anchored by NSUT Thanh Quy as the elderly Mrs Tinh, the matriarch who holds the little community together, the series weaves together themes of family, debt, dignity, and second chances. Praised for its naturalistic acting and grounded portrait of working-class Hanoi, Cuoc Doi Van Dep Sao became one of VTV3's most talked-about dramas of 2023, earning Thanh Huong and Hoang Hai some of the highest acclaim of their careers for their lead performances.
