About Deweni Inima
Deweni Inima is a long-running Sri Lankan Sinhala-language prime-time teledrama that premiered on TV Derana on 6 February 2017 and ran for roughly nine years across two seasons. Directed by Saranga Mendis and written by Saman Edirimunee, the serial built one of the largest and most loyal audiences in modern Sri Lankan television, becoming a fixture of weeknight viewing for households across the island. Its title, which translates loosely as the second innings, frames the story around cricket and the idea of second chances.
The narrative centers on Anuhas Fernando, a talented young cricketer whose ambitions on the field are constantly entangled with family loyalty, rivalry, and romance. Anuhas shares a complicated bond with his half-brother Awantha, and the two families at the heart of the show are drawn into shifting alliances, business pressures, and emotional conflicts. School, sport, and the pursuit of a national cricket career provide the early backdrop before the characters mature into adulthood and its harder choices.
Over hundreds of episodes the teledrama balanced youthful romance with melodrama, moral dilemmas, and the occasional comic interlude. Its second season carried Anuhas through personal loss and renewal, and the series concluded in June 2026 with an extended finale episode that resolved his long romantic arc. The show is widely credited with launching several young Sri Lankan performers into household-name status, and its blend of sport, family, and romance kept it among the most discussed serials on Sinhala television throughout its run.
