About Huba
Huba is a Tanzanian Swahili-language telenovela that has aired on the Maisha Magic Bongo channel since 2017 and streams internationally on Showmax. Produced by Jiffy Pictures, the company founded by Kenyan media couple Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla, the series is widely described as the longest-running Swahili telenovela made in Tanzania. The word huba means deep love or affection in Swahili, and that idea sits at the center of a sprawling, slow-burning family saga that has grown across well over a thousand episodes.
The story follows two rival families whose lives become entangled as they compete for wealth, status and influence. As money and ambition shape nearly every decision, romance repeatedly cuts across the battle lines, forcing characters to choose between loyalty to their families and the pull of forbidden affection. Schemes, betrayals, secret alliances and reconciliations drive the long-form plot, with new generations and outside players entering the feud as the seasons accumulate.
Built in the daily-serial tradition, Huba blends melodrama, domestic conflict and aspirational settings with a recognizably East African sensibility, performed entirely in Swahili. Its large rotating ensemble has made household names of several Tanzanian and regional performers, and standout characters such as Tima and Tesa became fan favorites. The show's longevity and steady viewership have made it a fixture of the Bongo television scene and one of the most familiar titles on Maisha Magic Bongo.
