About Family by Choice
Family by Choice (Korean title Gajokirago Haetjyo) is a 2024 South Korean television drama that aired on tvN and streamed internationally on Prime Video. The series is a Korean remake of the popular Chinese drama Go Ahead, and it relocates that story of chosen family to a warm, lived-in Korean neighborhood. At its heart are two single fathers and the three children they end up raising together, an unconventional household that blurs the line between friendship, kinship, and love.
The story follows Kim San-ha, Yoon Joo-won, and Kang Hae-jun, three young people who grow up side by side after circumstances draw their families together. With biological parents absent, struggling, or gone, the trio forms an inseparable bond under the care of two fathers who choose to share the work of raising them. The drama moves between their childhood years and their adult lives, tracing how the security and small wounds of that upbringing shape the people they become.
As the three reach adulthood and confront separations, returns, and shifting feelings, Family by Choice asks what truly makes a family. Tender and frequently bittersweet, the series leans into found-family melodrama, dwelling on shared meals, quiet sacrifices, and the loyalty that endures despite distance and misunderstanding. It positions chosen bonds as every bit as real and enduring as those of blood.
