About The Good Bad Mother
The Good Bad Mother (Korean title Joeun Nappeun Eomma) is a 2023 South Korean television series that aired on JTBC and streamed internationally on Netflix. Set largely in a rural pig-farming village, it follows Jin Young-soon, a widowed single mother who pours everything into raising her only son, Choi Kang-ho. Believing that hardship is the surest path to a secure life, she pushes him relentlessly toward success, and he grows up to become a cold, ambitious prosecutor who has all but cut ties with the home that shaped him.
The story turns when an accident leaves the adult Kang-ho with the mind of a young child, forcing mother and son back under the same roof. Stripped of his guarded, driven exterior, Kang-ho rediscovers the world with childlike wonder, and Young-soon must learn to parent him a second time, this time choosing tenderness over toughness. As his memories slowly return, the family confronts long-buried grief, old wounds, and the question of what they truly owe one another.
Blending warm humor, small-town charm, and earnest melodrama, the series is built around themes of motherhood, regret, and the possibility of a second chance at love between a parent and child. Lee Mi-joo, Kang-ho's devoted childhood sweetheart, anchors the romantic thread, while the villagers who helped raise Kang-ho provide both comic relief and a sense of community. Praised for its heartfelt performances, the drama became one of the more talked-about family titles of its season.
