About Hoa Hong Tren Nguc Trai
Hoa Hong Tren Nguc Trai (Roses on the Left Chest) is a Vietnamese prime-time family melodrama that aired on VTV3 from August 2019 to January 2020. Produced by the Vietnam Television Film Center (VFC) and directed by Vu Truong Khoa, the 46-episode series was a localized adaptation of the popular East Asian betrayed-wife story template, reset entirely within a contemporary Hanoi household. It became one of the most-discussed VTV dramas of its year.
The story follows Nguyen Hong Khue, a gentle and devoted homemaker who dropped out of school years earlier to marry Thai after an early pregnancy. Khue builds her whole life around her husband and children, only to discover that Thai is unfaithful and increasingly cruel, scheming with an ambitious outsider to push her out of the family. Her quiet endurance and eventual reclaiming of her own dignity form the emotional spine of the show.
Counterbalancing the domestic cruelty is Bao, a wealthy, principled businessman whose steadiness offers Khue a path toward stability and self-respect. As the marriage collapses and old secrets surface, the series weaves together themes of infidelity, motherhood, female resilience and second chances. The drama drew heavy nationwide viewership and made its leads household names, with Khue's arc treated as a touchstone for Vietnamese television melodrama of the era.
