About Ingobernable
Ingobernable is a Mexican political thriller produced for Netflix and built around Kate del Castillo as Emilia Urquiza, the First Lady of Mexico. As one of Netflix's earliest Mexican original series, it pairs the glossy production of a streaming-era drama with a fast, conspiracy-driven plot that moves between the corridors of national power and the hidden corners of Mexico City. The show drew a large international audience and helped establish del Castillo as a marquee draw for Spanish-language streaming.
The story opens as Emilia, an idealist who once believed in her husband's promise of change, grows disillusioned with President Diego Nava and the compromises of his administration. After a confrontation ends in tragedy and Emilia is accused of a crime she insists she did not commit, she is forced to flee and go into hiding, becoming a fugitive determined to uncover the truth behind a sprawling political conspiracy. What begins as a personal fight for survival widens into a hunt that exposes corruption, betrayal and the machinery of state.
Across two seasons the series tracks Emilia's transformation from polished public figure to hardened investigator, aided by an unlikely network of allies drawn from the city's margins, including activists and outsiders who distrust the government as much as she has come to. Praised for its lead performance and its propulsive pacing, Ingobernable treats themes of power and accountability as the engine of a thriller, following a woman who refuses to disappear quietly and instead pursues the people who tried to silence her.
