About Kejetia vs Makola
Kejetia vs Makola is a Ghanaian courtroom satirical comedy series that premiered on Joy Prime in July 2017. Each episode stages a mock trial in which absurd disputes are argued before a young, eccentric and fun-loving judge whose rulings are as unpredictable as the cases themselves. The show borrows the structure of a legal drama only to subvert it, turning the courtroom into a stage for slapstick, wordplay and broad physical comedy.
The format pits two camps of advocates against each other. On one side are the polished, well-spoken lawyers associated with Makola, Accra's famous commercial district; on the other are the self-styled, brashly confident advocates who claim to have studied at the fictional law school in Kejetia, the busy market hub of Kumasi. The clash of registers, accents and bluster between the two sides drives much of the humor, with the maverick Lawyer Nti and the pretentious Lawyer Nebuchadnezzar among the most quoted figures.
Produced by Leizer Legacy Productions and directed by Louis Lamis, who also presides over the bench as the judge, the series became one of the most talked-about local comedy properties of its era. It spawned multiple seasons, drew large crowds to its launch events, and attracted guest appearances from Ghanaian music and entertainment stars. The show has also been noted in commentary for its heavy reliance on a regional comic archetype, a point that has fueled debate among viewers even as the series remained a fan favorite.
