About Nadaaniyan
Nadaaniyan is a 2025 Indian Hindi-language teen romantic comedy released on Netflix and directed by Shauna Gautam. Set against the backdrop of an elite Delhi private school, the film follows Pia, a privileged and popular schoolgirl whose social world is built on appearances. When pressure from her peer group leaves her needing a boyfriend to maintain her standing, she strikes a quiet arrangement with Arjun, a sharp scholarship student from a more modest background, hiring him to pose as her partner for a fixed period of time.
What begins as a transactional pretense gradually softens into something neither of them planned. As Pia and Arjun spend time together keeping up the act in front of classmates and family, the staged romance starts to reveal genuine feeling, and both are forced to confront the class divide that separates their everyday lives. The film leans on familiar fake-dating beats while framing them through a contemporary Gen-Z lens, complete with social-media pressures, school politics, and the anxieties of young people figuring out who they are.
Headlined by debut-generation stars Khushi Kapoor and Ibrahim Ali Khan, Nadaaniyan positions itself as a breezy, lighthearted coming-of-age love story rather than a heavy drama. The supporting cast, including veteran performers playing the leads' families, anchors the youthful central pairing. As a glossy streaming rom-com aimed at a young audience, the film blends bright visuals, a pop-forward soundtrack, and an earnest message about looking past surface differences to find a first, formative love.
