About The Royals
The Royals is a 2025 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy that premiered on Netflix on May 9, 2025. It centers on Sophia Kanmani Shekhar, a sharp, self-made startup CEO who runs a hospitality venture and lives by hustle, spreadsheets, and results. When she arrives at a faded royal estate in the fictional kingdom of Morpur, she collides with a world of inherited titles, dusty grandeur, and aristocrats who have run out of money but not out of charm.
At the center of that world is Maharaj Aviraaj Singh, nicknamed Fizzy, a handsome, easygoing prince who would rather coast on privilege than do the work of saving his family. His plan to turn the crumbling Motibagh Palace into a glamorous luxury bed-and-breakfast throws him into a working partnership with Sophia, and their clashing instincts, commoner grit against blue-blooded entitlement, generate constant friction. Predictably, the friction starts to look a lot like attraction.
Glossy, breezy, and unapologetically escapist, the series leans into opulent palace settings, designer wardrobes, and a sprawling ensemble of relatives and hangers-on. Across eight episodes it plays its enemies-to-lovers romance against a lightly satirical look at modern Indian royalty trying to stay relevant, and money, in a startup age. The show drew a wide streaming audience and mixed-to-positive reviews, with much of the attention going to the chemistry of its two leads.
