About Preman Pensiun
Preman Pensiun is an Indonesian television series created and directed by Aris Nugraha and produced by MNC Pictures, which premiered on RCTI on January 12, 2015. Set in the streets and markets of Bandung, West Java, the show follows a loose network of small-time thugs, market enforcers, and pickpockets as their aging leader tries to step away from the only life he has ever known. The title translates roughly to The Retired Gangster, and the premise turns a crime-world setup into a warm, talky comedy about loyalty, family, and growing old.
The early seasons center on Kang Bahar, a respected old-school boss who decides to retire and hand his territory to his trusted lieutenant Muslihat, better known to fans as Kang Mus. What follows is less a story of violence than of management headaches: collecting from market stalls, refereeing squabbles among foot soldiers, and keeping the peace with rival groups, all while the characters insist they are simply ordinary men trying to earn an honest living. The Sundanese humor, slow-burn dialogue, and gentle morality made the show a word-of-mouth hit.
After an initial run, the series became a recurring event for Indonesian audiences, returning for new seasons across a decade and concluding its tenth season on August 31, 2025. Over 418 episodes it built an unusually devoted following, spun off into feature films, and turned its ensemble of character actors into household names. Its blend of crime-comedy and slice-of-life storytelling, anchored by performances such as Epy Kusnandar as Kang Mus and Mat Drajat as the lovelorn Kang Komar, made it one of the most beloved long-running sinetrons of its era.
