About Renascer
Renascer is a 2024 Brazilian telenovela produced by TV Globo, a remake of the acclaimed 1993 novela originally written by Benedito Ruy Barbosa and adapted here by his grandson Bruno Luperi. Set against the cacao-growing lands of southern Bahia, it follows Jose Inocencio, a determined man who arrives with almost nothing and, through years of toil, builds a sprawling plantation and a family dynasty. The story unfolds as a multigenerational saga, tracing how the land that gives the family its fortune also shapes its loves, its loyalties, and its long-running feuds.
The narrative moves across decades, opening with a younger Jose Inocencio carving out his place in the region and later returning to him as an aging patriarch presiding over the empire he created. Humberto Carrao plays the headstrong young Inocencio, while Marcos Palmeira takes up the role in the present-day timeline as the weathered family head. Barbara Reis appears as Maria Santa, the woman whose arrival reshapes Inocencio's early life. Around them gathers a wide ensemble of sons, neighbors, and laborers whose ambitions and grudges ripple outward through the generations.
Beyond the family drama, Renascer is preoccupied with themes of land, inheritance, and legacy. It asks what a man truly owns when his name is bound up with the soil, and how the choices of one generation echo down to the next. Folkloric and mystical touches, including a watchful guardian figure tied to the plantation, give the saga a mythic dimension, while its portrait of rural Bahia foregrounds the labor and culture of the cacao country. The remake updates the storytelling for a modern audience while keeping the broad, emotional sweep that made the original a landmark of Brazilian television.
