About Rizzoli & Isles
Set in the working-class precincts and gleaming morgues of Boston, Rizzoli and Isles follows two women at the top of very different professions who happen to be each other's closest friend. Detective Jane Rizzoli is a sharp-tongued, blue-collar homicide cop with three brothers and a permanent chip on her shoulder, while Dr. Maura Isles is a polished, hyper-rational chief medical examiner with a closet full of designer clothes and a habit of explaining decomposition over lunch. Together they solve the murders that wash up across the city, one body and one bickering car ride at a time.
What separates the show from the standard case-of-the-week grind is the friendship at its center. Jane drags Maura toward instinct and feeling; Maura pulls Jane toward evidence and precision; and the contrast becomes the engine of nearly every story. Around them orbits a lived-in ensemble of detectives, family members, and lab techs, plus an overbearing mother whose meatballs and meddling are equally relentless. The cases can be grim, but the tone stays warm, funny, and unmistakably human.
Adapted by Janet Tamaro from Tess Gerritsen's bestselling novels, the series ran seven seasons on TNT and built a devoted fan base around its central duo. It stars Angie Harmon as Jane Rizzoli, Sasha Alexander as Maura Isles, and Lorraine Bracco as Jane's irrepressible mother, Angela Rizzoli.
