About Skazana
Skazana (internationally titled The Convict) is a Polish crime drama produced as a Player Original and later carried on TVN and on Max. It follows Alicja Mazur, a respected judge whose orderly life collapses when she is accused of a murder she insists she did not commit. Convicted and sent to a women's prison, she suddenly finds herself living among inmates she may once have sentenced, forced to survive a world she previously only observed from the bench.
Inside the walls, Alicja learns the unwritten rules of prison life the hard way, navigating alliances, threats, and a hierarchy that has nothing to do with the law she once served. Her determination is sharpened by two forces: fear for her teenage daughter on the outside, and a steady resolve to clear her name and understand who engineered her downfall. Among the inmates she encounters is Patrycja Cichy, known as Pati, whose streetwise instincts make her both a hazard and, at times, an unexpected ally.
Created by Bartosz Konopka and drawing loose inspiration from a Polish book about women behind bars, the series blends a survival thriller with a character study of institutions and the people caught inside them. Across its run it widens from one woman's ordeal into an ensemble portrait of life in a penitentiary, returning throughout to questions of justice, corruption, loyalty, and what it costs to hold on to yourself when everything familiar has been stripped away.
