About Tempest
Tempest (Korean title Pokpung) is a 2025 Disney+ Korean political-espionage thriller that premiered in September 2025. Written by Jeong Seo-kyeong and directed by Kim Hee-won, it follows Seo Mun-ju, a sharp former diplomat who once served as Korea's ambassador to the United Nations, and Baek San-ho, a guarded mercenary of murky origins. After the assassination of a presidential candidate throws the country into crisis, the two are drawn together to expose a conspiracy that threatens the stability of the Korean peninsula.
Sleek and globe-trotting, the series moves between diplomatic back channels, intelligence agencies, and corridors of power, building a cat-and-mouse plot in which alliances shift and almost no one can be taken at face value. Mun-ju's instinct for negotiation and reading a room is paired with San-ho's field experience, and their wary partnership becomes the spine of an investigation that keeps widening as it goes.
Headlined by Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-won, with Hollywood actor John Cho among the international ensemble, Tempest was one of the most closely watched Korean releases of 2025. It frames its geopolitical intrigue through diplomacy and conspiracy rather than spectacle, treating the danger its characters face in tense, restrained terms while keeping the focus on who is pulling the strings and why.
