About Tres Familias
Tres Familias, originally broadcast on Ecuavisa as 3 familias, is one of Ecuador's most beloved comedy series, following three neighboring households drawn from very different rungs of the social ladder. There is the wealthy, status-obsessed Plaza-Lagos family, the striving middle-class Vaca-Galindo household, and the warm, working-class Tomala-Cabezas clan. Living side by side, their daily lives comically collide as each family meets the same everyday situations through the lens of its own habits, manners, and means.
Created by Marcos Espin, the show built its humor on the gentle friction between classes, with each family's distinct vocabulary, customs, and outlook played for warmth rather than ridicule. At its heart is the much-loved couple Genaro Tomala and Genesis Cabezas, whose modest, big-hearted home becomes the emotional anchor of the neighborhood, while the Vaca-Galindo household and their wealthier neighbors round out a sprawling ensemble of relatives, in-laws, and busybodies.
Premiering in 2014 as a weekly comedy and later shifting toward a daily telenovela format, Tres Familias ran for six seasons and more than 600 episodes before concluding in 2020. It became a cultural touchstone in Ecuadorian television, praised for turning class differences into affectionate, family-friendly comedy, and the series has since reached new audiences through streaming on Prime Video.
