About Um Haroun
Um Haroun is a Kuwaiti-produced period drama set in an unnamed Gulf coastal town during the 1940s, before the discovery of oil reshaped the region. The series follows a tight-knit neighborhood where Muslim, Christian and Jewish families live side by side, sharing markets, courtyards and everyday hardships. At the center stands Um Haroun, a respected Jewish midwife whose home and clinic become a meeting point for the whole community.
Across thirty Ramadan-season episodes, the show traces the rivalries, romances and secrets that ripple through the town as old loyalties strain under social change. Um Haroun delivers babies, settles disputes and keeps confidences, but her standing also makes her a target for gossip and suspicion. The ensemble storyline weaves together arranged marriages, family debts, illness and the slow arrival of modern ideas into a traditional Gulf setting.
Produced by MBC and released during Ramadan 2020, the series drew wide regional attention for dramatizing a multi-faith Gulf neighborhood and for its large pan-Khaleeji cast led by Kuwaiti screen veteran Hayat Al-Fahad. Shot on elaborate period sets recreating mid-century alleyways and souks, it became one of the most discussed Khaleeji dramas of its season and circulated to streaming audiences through the Shahid platform.
