About Welcome to the Ballroom

Welcome to the Ballroom (Ballroom e Yokoso) follows Tatara Fujita, a directionless middle-schooler with no goals and no passion, who is pressured about his future and bullied for his timidity. When a chance encounter with professional dancer Kaname Sengoku rescues him from trouble, Tatara is pulled into the dazzling, high-pressure world of competitive ballroom dance, a sport he never knew could set him on fire.

Adapted by Production I.G from Tomo Takeuchi's award-winning manga, the series charts Tatara's transformation from a clumsy beginner into a hungry competitor. Inside the Ogasawara Dance Studio he learns the brutal discipline behind the elegance: the postures, the partnering, the standard and Latin styles, and the gulf between effort and natural talent. Along the way he is drawn to classmate Shizuku Hanaoka, a gifted dancer whose grace first lights his ambition.

More than a sports anime about footwork and trophies, the show is a coming-of-age story about identity, partnership, and the role a 'leader' plays in lifting a partner to shine. Tatara measures himself against prodigies like Kiyoharu Hyodo and mercurial veterans like Sengoku, discovering that ballroom is as much about reading another person as it is about technique. Across 24 episodes the floor becomes the place where a shy boy finally learns who he wants to be.
