Character Arc

Arthur Boyle is a Third Generation pyrokinetic who joins Special Fire Force Company 8 at the same time as Shinra, immediately becoming his rival and reluctant partner. He fashions himself as the Knight King, an over-the-top persona in which he imagines himself a chivalrous knight, and he fights using a plasma blade he calls Excalibur. His delusional confidence and complete obliviousness make him one of the funniest characters in the series, even as his power proves genuinely formidable.

Despite his comedic nature, Arthur grows into a reliable and dangerous fighter whose abilities scale with how deeply he believes in his own knightly fantasy. Throughout the series he and Shinra push each other to improve, their rivalry fueling some of the show's most memorable training and battle moments. Arthur's unique ability to convert his imagination into raw plasma output makes him unpredictable, and his strength often surprises both allies and enemies.

In the later arcs Arthur faces darker and more serious challenges that test the limits of his Knight King mindset and force moments of unexpected depth. He delivers some of the most striking and emotional sequences of the final stretch, proving that beneath the comedy lies a powerful and committed soldier. By the end Arthur stands as both a source of levity and a genuine pillar of strength for Company 8.
