Character Arc
Shinra Kusakabe is the protagonist of Fire Force, a Third Generation pyrokinetic who can ignite flames from his feet and move at incredible speed. As a child he survived a fire that he was blamed for and that seemingly killed his mother and infant brother, leaving him with a nervous habit of grinning when he is anxious that earned him the cruel nickname devil. He joins Special Fire Force Company 8 determined to clear his name and become a hero who saves people from the terror of combustion.
Within Company 8, Shinra forms close bonds with his captain and squadmates while honing his abilities through grueling training and dangerous missions. He learns that he possesses an Adolla Burst, a rare and coveted power that places him at the center of the Evangelist's plans, and he discovers that his younger brother Sho is alive and serving the enemy. These revelations push Shinra to grow stronger so he can protect others and rescue his brother from the forces manipulating him.
By the final season Shinra has matured into one of the most powerful fighters in the series, mastering new techniques and confronting the cosmic stakes behind the combustion phenomenon. His unwavering desire to be a hero, rather than a devil, drives him through battles that decide the fate of the world. Shinra ultimately embodies the show's central theme that one person's choice to keep moving forward and protect others can hold back even an apocalypse.
