Character Arc

Inuyasha is the half-demon title character, born of a great dog-demon father and a human mother. Orphaned young and shunned for his mixed blood, he grew up hardened and distrustful. Fifty years before the story begins, he fell in love with the priestess Kikyo and sought the Shikon Jewel to become a full demon, but Naraku's manipulation turned the two against each other, leaving Kikyo to seal him to a sacred tree with a sealing arrow.

Awakened by Kagome, Kikyo's reincarnation, Inuyasha is bound to her by a subjugation necklace that lets her stop him with the command 'sit.' Though he is loud, stubborn, and quick to fight, he is fiercely loyal and protective of his companions. His signature sword, the Tessaiga, was forged from his father's fang and grows in power as he masters techniques like the Wind Scar and the Backlash Wave.

Across the series Inuyasha matures from a lone, angry warrior into a steadfast protector who learns to trust and to love. Torn for a time between his lingering feelings for Kikyo and his growing bond with Kagome, he ultimately commits himself fully to Kagome. After the final defeat of Naraku, the two are reunited across time and build a life together in the feudal era.
