Character Arc

Kagome Higurashi is a fifteen-year-old girl from modern Tokyo who lives at her family's Shinto shrine. On her birthday she is pulled down the Bone-Eater's Well by a centipede demon and finds herself in feudal Japan, where she learns she is the reincarnation of the priestess Kikyo and the keeper of the Shikon Jewel hidden within her body.

After she accidentally shatters the jewel into countless shards, Kagome takes responsibility for recovering them, traveling between her modern life and the past through the well. A gifted archer with strong spiritual powers, she can sense and purify the jewel shards, abilities that make her indispensable to the group even as she balances her quest with school and family back home.

Warm, brave, and compassionate, Kagome becomes the emotional heart of the team and slowly falls in love with Inuyasha despite the complication of his past with Kikyo. After Naraku is defeated and the jewel is finally purified out of existence, Kagome is separated from the feudal era for three years before the well reopens, allowing her to return permanently and marry Inuyasha.
