Character Arc
Nathan Young is the loud, irreverent heart of the original Misfits ensemble, an Irish motormouth whose constant joking and refusal to take anything seriously masks a deeply troubled and insecure young man. Sentenced to community service after a petty theft, he becomes the unofficial spokesperson of the group, deflecting every crisis with sarcasm even as accidental deaths and supernatural threats pile up around them.
For much of the first series Nathan appears to have gained no power at all, a running source of frustration for him given how much he craves attention. The truth is revealed in a memorable cliffhanger: he is immortal, repeatedly returning to life after being killed. This ability becomes central to his story, allowing the show to push him into reckless and self-destructive situations while exploring the loneliness and absurdity of a young man who cannot die.
Beneath the relentless banter, Nathan slowly reveals more vulnerable layers, including a strained family life and a tentative romance within the group. Robert Sheehan's performance turned the character into one of the show's most beloved figures, and Nathan's departure after the second series, written out as he moves on from the community centre, marked a significant turning point for the series and its tone.
