Character Arc
Simon Bellamy begins the series as the quiet, socially awkward outsider of the group, an isolated young man so easily overlooked that his superpower, invisibility, becomes a pointed reflection of how unseen he feels in everyday life. In the early episodes he hovers at the edges of the ensemble, secretly filming his fellow offenders and struggling to connect with anyone.
As the series progresses, Simon undergoes one of the most dramatic transformations in the show. He grows more confident and capable, gradually becoming braver and more central to the group's survival. A complex time-travel arc reveals a future version of himself, a far more assured and heroic figure whose actions ripple back to shape the Simon viewers first met, giving the character genuine mythic weight within the story.
Simon's evolving relationship with another member of the group anchors much of his later development and provides some of the series' most emotionally resonant moments. Iwan Rheon's nuanced portrayal of a withdrawn outsider growing into an unlikely hero made Simon a fan favourite, and the character was written out after the third series alongside other original cast departures.
