Character Arc
Uran is Atom's younger sister, a child robot whose unusual sensitivity sets her apart. Where Atom is measured and inquisitive, Uran is intuitive and emotionally perceptive, able to sense the feelings of those around her, including animals and people in distress. Like her brother, she is drawn from Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy and reframed within Urasawa's more reflective world.
In the story, Uran's empathy becomes meaningful as the threat surrounding her family grows. Her attentiveness to suffering and her instinct to comfort others deepen the series' exploration of robot inner life, suggesting that compassion can arise as naturally in an artificial being as in a human. Her relationship with Atom adds warmth and stakes to the unfolding mystery.
Though a supporting figure, Uran reinforces Pluto's central themes by embodying gentleness in a narrative shadowed by grief and conflict. Her ability to perceive pain that others miss quietly underscores the anime's question of what truly distinguishes feeling from circuitry. The character is voiced in Japanese by Minori Suzuki.
