Character Arc

Yor Forger seems, at first, like a shy and somewhat lonely city hall clerk who agrees to a sham marriage with Loid mainly to deflect questions about why she is still single. In reality, she is the Thorn Princess, an elite contract killer whose grace with a blade is matched only by her endearing social awkwardness away from the job.

Her arc traces a woman learning to want the life she pretended to have. Yor takes her role as wife and mother far more seriously than the convenient arrangement requires, fretting over whether she is good enough for Anya and gradually building a real bond with both her and Loid, even as her deadly day job keeps threatening to spill into their home.

The comedy of Yor lies in the gap between her terrifying competence as an assassin and her gentle, slightly clumsy heart, while her growing devotion to her family gives the series real warmth. Saori Hayami plays both sides beautifully, making Yor as lovable in the kitchen as she is lethal in the field.
