Character Arc
Zelda Spellman is the formidable and traditional aunt who serves as the strict matriarch of the Spellman household. Deeply devoted to the coven and its rituals, she initially insists that Sabrina honor witch customs and submit to the Dark Lord. Her sharp tongue, devout faith, and fierce sense of family make her one of the most commanding figures in Greendale.
As the series unfolds, Zelda is forced to question the institutions she has always served, particularly after entangling herself with the ambitious and dangerous Father Blackwood. Her arc traces a gradual shift from rigid orthodoxy toward independence as she fights to protect her family from the corruption of the church of night. This transformation reveals the warmth and ferocity beneath her stern exterior.
By the later seasons Zelda steps into genuine leadership, rising to take charge of the coven and redefine its faith on her own terms. She becomes a protector not only of her nieces and nephew but of all the witches who depend on her, blending authority with hard-won compassion. Her journey from enforcer of tradition to reformer is one of the show's most satisfying evolutions.
