About Analog Squad
Analog Squad (Thai title: Analog Squad: Tem Wong Penkamlang Hai Ther) is a 2023 Thai comedy-drama created and directed by Nithiwat Tharatorn for Netflix. Set in Bangkok in 1999, an analog world of pagers, video rental shops, and the lingering Tom Yum Kung financial crisis, it follows Pond, a middle-aged con man with a fractured past who learns that his estranged father is dying. Desperate to give the old man one last image of a son who turned out well, Pond hatches a scheme: hire strangers to pose as the loving wife and grown children he never actually had.
He recruits his former girlfriend Lily to play his wife, alongside Keg, a fresh graduate scraping by at a pager company, and Bung, a video-store owner with a quiet passion for acting, to play his kids. What begins as a tightly scripted performance for a hospital bedside slowly slips its leash. As the fake family rehearses, improvises, and covers for one another, the lies start to feel like care, and the borrowed roles begin to fit a little too well.
Warm, funny, and unhurried, Analog Squad mines its 1990s nostalgia for more than set dressing, using a pre-internet Bangkok to ask what actually binds people together. Across eight episodes the makeshift household drifts from transaction toward something genuine, and the question of whether a family you assemble can become a family you keep gives the series its tender, bittersweet heart.
