About Being Human
Being Human follows three twenty-something supernatural beings who share a rented house in Bristol and try to pass as ordinary people. Mitchell is a charming vampire fighting his thirst for blood, George is an awkward werewolf terrified of the monster he becomes once a month, and Annie is the ghost of a young woman who died in the house and cannot move on. Together they form an unlikely family bound by the shared wish to simply be human.
The series treats its monsters as flawed, relatable people, using the supernatural premise to explore loneliness, addiction, friendship, and the struggle to belong. As the housemates juggle jobs, relationships, and the mundane frustrations of daily life, they are repeatedly drawn into the hidden conflicts of the world they belong to. Mitchell in particular is pulled back toward a powerful vampire underworld that threatens the fragile peace the trio have built.
Created by Toby Whithouse, the show began as a 2008 pilot before being commissioned as a full series that ran for five seasons until 2013. Its blend of horror, dark comedy, and genuine emotion earned it a devoted fan base and a later American remake. Over its run the cast evolved, with new housemates arriving to carry the story forward as original characters departed, keeping the heart of the premise intact.
