About Blanca
Blanca is an Italian crime drama produced for RAI 1 that follows Blanca Ferrando, a sharp and stubborn young woman who has been blind since childhood. Adapted from the novels of Patrizia Rinaldi and set against the bright coastline of Liguria, the series introduces Blanca as a trainee consultant inside a police squad, where she transcribes intercepted audio and listens for the details everyone else misses. Her remarkable hearing, retentive memory, and refusal to be underestimated quickly turn her into an unlikely investigator.
At the heart of the show is the prickly, slow-warming partnership between Blanca and Inspector Michele Liguori, a guarded detective who starts out deeply skeptical of having a blind consultant on his cases. As they work through a string of investigations, mutual suspicion gives way to respect and a genuine professional bond. Blanca is rarely alone: her loyal guide dog Linneo is a constant companion, and a tender romance with a kind-hearted veterinarian gives the procedural a warm, human counterweight to the casework.
Beyond the case-of-the-week structure, Blanca is a story about resilience and reinvention. The series threads in Blanca's personal history, including the loss that shaped her and her determination to live fully on her own terms, while celebrating the way she reframes a perceived limitation as her greatest strength. Buoyed by Maria Chiara Giannetta's warm, charismatic lead performance, the show became a popular fixture of Italian primetime and returned for a second season, blending uplifting character drama with accessible, non-graphic mystery.
