About Blood Free
Blood Free is a 2024 South Korean science-fiction thriller set in the near future, where a pioneering biotech company called BF (Blood Free) has transformed the world by manufacturing cultured, or lab-grown, meat. The company is led by its formidable founder and CEO, Yun Ja-yu, a brilliant and intensely private scientist-entrepreneur whose breakthroughs have made her one of the most powerful and most watched figures on the planet. As BF's influence expands into deeper biotech research, the company attracts admirers, investors, rivals, and enemies who would do almost anything to control or destroy what it has built.
When a violent incident exposes how vulnerable Yun Ja-yu has become, she hires a new head of security, Woo Chae-woon, a disciplined former special forces officer with an impressive record and a calm, watchful manner. What Yun Ja-yu does not initially know is that Woo Chae-woon carries his own hidden agenda, having taken the job to investigate questions tied to his past and to the company itself. The series follows the wary, shifting relationship between the two as threats escalate and each tries to read the other's true intentions.
Across its single season, Blood Free builds a tense corporate mystery around the question of what BF is really developing behind its public mission, and who benefits from keeping those secrets buried. Created and written by acclaimed screenwriter Lee Soo-yeon, the show pairs near-future speculation about food technology, automation, and artificial intelligence with a grounded thriller about loyalty, ambition, and trust. It earned attention for its sleek production, its restrained tone, and the central pairing of two stars known for very different roles.
