About Parasyte: The Grey
Parasyte: The Grey is a 2024 South Korean science-fiction thriller created by Yeon Sang-ho for Netflix, set within the universe of Hitoshi Iwaaki's Parasyte manga but telling an original Korean story. Across six episodes, alien spores arrive on Earth and burrow into human hosts, taking over their bodies and minds to survive and feed. The premise that drives the series is a single failed takeover: when a parasite tries to seize a young woman named Jeong Su-in during a moment of crisis, it cannot fully control her, leaving the two consciousnesses forced to share one body.
That uneasy partnership becomes the emotional core of the show. Su-in must learn to coexist with the creature living inside her, negotiating control, trust, and survival while a specialized police unit known as Team Grey hunts the parasites spreading through the city. As the organisms organize and infiltrate human institutions, Su-in crosses paths with Seol Kang-woo, a small-time gangster searching for his own missing sister, and the two outsiders are drawn into the larger conflict between humanity and the parasites.
Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, known for Train to Busan, and co-written with Ryu Yong-jae, the series blends creature-feature tension with a grounded story about identity, belonging, and what it means to be human. Rather than dwelling on spectacle, the show frames its scares around the question of who can be trusted when anyone might be a host, and around Su-in's struggle to hold on to herself. Parasyte: The Grey debuted in April 2024 and was renewed for a second season, extending its place in the broader Parasyte franchise.
