Costao

Costao is a 2025 Indian Hindi-language biographical crime drama, directed by Sejal Shah and released on ZEE5 on 1 May 2025. The film dramatizes the true story of Costao Fernandes, a Goa customs officer in the 1990s who refused to look away from a gold-smuggling operation that powerful, well-connected men assumed no honest civil servant would dare touch. What begins as one officer doing his job becomes a years-long fight for survival and vindication, as the people Costao exposed turn the full weight of money, influence, and the legal system against him.

At the center is Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Costao Fernandes, a man whose only real weapon is his refusal to be bought. The film follows the night his pursuit of a smuggling kingpin ends in a death, and the long aftermath in which Costao is recast from enforcer to accused. Rather than lean on action set pieces, the story stays close to the slow grind of an honest man under pressure: the surveillance, the threats, the courtroom delays, and the quiet toll on the home he is trying to protect. Priya Bapat plays his wife, Maria Fernandes, whose steadiness becomes the family's anchor, while Kishore Kumar G appears as D'Mello, part of the world closing in around him.
