About Cracow Monsters
Cracow Monsters (Polish: Kruk) is a 2022 Polish supernatural series that premiered on Netflix. It follows Alex, a bright but haunted young woman carrying the weight of a traumatic past, who is drawn into the orbit of an enigmatic university professor named Zawadzki. He leads a secretive group of gifted medical and science students who, beneath their ordinary academic lives, investigate phenomena that resist rational explanation. As Alex is initiated into the group, she discovers that the modern city of Krakow sits atop older, stranger layers of legend.
Rather than relying on graphic shocks, the series builds its tension from atmosphere, dream logic, and the slow unveiling of Slavic mythology. The creatures and forces the students confront are drawn from the folklore of the region, and the show treats these myths as a hidden history bleeding into the present. Alex's investigation is as much about understanding herself and the loss in her past as it is about the supernatural cases the group takes on, and the two threads steadily intertwine as the season progresses.
Across its eight episodes the series blends mystery, coming-of-age drama, and folkloric horror, with Krakow itself functioning almost as a character: its churches, tunnels, and old quarters become gateways to a mythic underworld. The ensemble of students provides camaraderie and friction in equal measure, while the central mystery surrounding Alex's origins and the professor's true motives anchors the supernatural set pieces. The result is a moody, mythology-forward entry in Netflix's slate of European genre series.
